How does it work?Let me explain our interview process through a clear example: The journey starts with an initial consultation call where we discuss your story goals - whether capturing a pivotal life event, preserving cherished memories, or documenting meaningful experiences. Through this conversation, I can understand the narrative scope and help shape the most effective approach. Based on what we discuss, I'll provide a time estimate and collaborate with you to find an ideal setting for the interview that puts everyone at ease. For instance, one of our recent subjects, my old friend Brian, shared stories from his teaching career and youthful travels during a comfortable session at his home. This relaxed environment allowed his memories to flow naturally, resulting in authentic, engaging storytelling that captured both the highlights of his career in education and the spirit of his adventures abroad. My goal is to create a framework where your unique story can unfold organically, guided by what matters most to you. Let's start by discussing your vision for this personal narrative.
-
Where is the interview conducted? We conduct interviews in the comfort of your own home, where familiar surroundings naturally encourage a more relaxed and authentic conversation. This setting offers several key advantages: you have easy access to personal mementos and photographs that might enhance your story, the environment itself often triggers meaningful memories, and most importantly, you can feel completely at ease while sharing your experiences. Being in your personal space allows us to capture your story in its most natural context, leading to richer, more detailed narratives that truly reflect who you are.
-
Who conducts the interview and how do you approach it?As the interviewer, I take a personal approach focused on drawing out each subject's unique story. Our initial conversation establishes what they want to share, since this is their narrative to tell. Unlike investigative reporting that seeks hidden angles, I create space for people to authentically share the experiences that matter most to them. By conducting all interviews myself, I ensure this collaborative storytelling process remains centered on their voice.
-
Can you use my photos to illustrate my story?Yes, personal photographs are a wonderful way to enrich and illustrate your story. When you share photos with me during our session, I can incorporate them at key moments in the recording to bring your memories to life. As you recount different chapters of your story, we can time the appearance of relevant images to complement your narration - whether it's a cherished family portrait, snapshots from significant events, or pictures that capture meaningful places and moments in your life. These visual elements help create a more complete and engaging narrative, while also preserving important visual memories alongside your spoken recollections. The photos will be carefully integrated into the final MP4 recording, which you'll receive on a USB drive, creating a multimedia story that future generations can both watch and see.
-
What if my location is too far away?If you have a decent laptop with programs such as Skype or Zoom we can conduct a remote interview. Here's an example of an interview with David, an industrial designer located in Melbourne, recorded a couple of years ago. https://youtu.be/flVwaIMrj8Y
-
Can you produce a tribute to someone who has passed on?Yes, we can create a meaningful tribute to honor someone who has passed away by weaving together photographs, existing video footage, and memories into a touching memorial. For example, we recently created a tribute for Brian Titheradge's family and friends that captured his spirit and legacy through carefully selected images and video moments from his life. These tribute videos serve as both a celebration of life and a precious keepsake that helps preserve memories for future generations. The key is having access to visual materials - photographs, home movies, or video clips - that we can thoughtfully incorporate to illustrate different chapters of their life story. These visual elements, combined with narration and possibly music, create a moving narrative that helps keep their memory alive in a format that can be easily shared with family and friends. Have you already gathered some photos or video footage that you'd like to include in your tribute?

Do you cover events? Our facilities for covering events may be limited, but we thoroughly document the ones we cover. Recently, we recorded the "Lago Di Mac," an Italian festival at Croudace Bay on Lake Macquarie. The festival celebrated Italian culture with car enthusiasts, local traders, and families. It attracted around 3,500 attendees, enjoying a wide range of activities. The showcase of Italian cars, motorcycles, and scooters was a highlight. We interviewed participants, gaining insights into the history and stories behind these machines. Local traders offered Italian foods and products. Stalls featured pizzas, pastas, and other delicacies, adding to the festival's vibrant atmosphere. Entertainment included live music, dances, and interactive activities. Children enjoyed face painting and games, while adults marveled at the vehicles. The festival celebrated Italian culture and impacted the local community. It provided a platform for local traders and car enthusiasts, fostering community spirit. Despite limited facilities, our coverage of the Lago Di Mac festival was a success. We documented a memorable event celebrating Italian heritage and community engagement. We look forward to covering more events in the future.

Can you promote my business with a video?Certainly! We can help showcase your business with a professional video tailored to highlight your products, services, or premises. Whether you need new footage filmed on-site or want to incorporate existing material into a polished presentation, we’ll create a video that captures the essence of your business and engages your audience.
-
What does it cost?Let me explain our pricing structure in a way that reflects the range of services we provide. Our fees are based on the scope and complexity of your story project, starting with a basic package and scaling up for more involved productions. The foundational package, priced at $250, covers a standard one-hour interview session. This includes capturing your story, incorporating relevant photographs to enhance the narrative, and basic editing to create a polished final product. You'll receive your story as an MP4 recording on a USB drive, which you can easily play on any computer or smart TV and share with family and friends as you wish. For more extensive projects, like documenting an entire career or capturing a complex life story, the investment reflects the additional time and resources required. Consider a recent project we completed with an entertainer - this involved multiple interview sessions, extensive photo collection, archival research, and careful editing across several days to weave together a comprehensive narrative. Such in-depth projects represent the upper range of our services. Think of it like crafting a book - a short story requires different resources than an autobiography. Each story has unique needs, and we'll work together to determine the appropriate scope and investment for your particular narrative. Would you like to discuss what type of story you're looking to preserve?

What is Curious Jag?Curious Jag Pty Ltd is our parent company that has a legacy of recording motoring events, interviewing drivers, and showcasing their vehicles. VIDEO1 emerged from this heritage to document family histories and life stories in a professional manner. Here is an interview we conducted with Garry Wilmington, an Aussie battler who built up a successful Jaguar racing car in the 1980s.
